Trees and Gardens: A Complex Relationship

Mark Laurence explores the complex relationships between trees, gardens, people, ecosystems and climate. Trees are not just ornaments, nor are they a nuisance to work around; they are essential elements in the health of planet and people. Trees are ecosystem generators or holobionts, an assemblage of a host and the many other species that depend upon it. Mark will discuss how to create ecologically adaptive, emotionally rich treescapes and gardens.

BIO

Mark Laurene is a horticulturist, consulting arborist and landscape designer with a particular interest in adapting landscapes to climate change, restoring ecosystem function and adapting tree planting to low/no irrigation in arid climates, especially in the Gulf region. In the UK, Mark is exploring and developing the concepts of coppice landscapes for gardens and urban environments.
