To her surprise she has become an expert, not in wildlife friendly gardens as she expected, but in care and dementia gardens. Whether you’re a new or established designer, her story may reveal new opportunities, questions or insights to finding your own niche.

Debbie Carroll is a garden designer passionate about gardens being well used and well loved long after she has left. She is celebrating 20 years designing domestic gardens that reflect her clients across a diverse portfolio. Her research project with fellow designer Mark Rendell unlocked what it takes to create actively used care and dementia gardens and led to the formation of Step Change Design. This is celebrating 10 years and focuses on sharing their study findings and publishes their books for garden designers and care environments in the series ‘Why Don’t We Go Into The Garden?
