Case study: Manhattan West public realm, New York
Manhattan West is a mixed-use project in New York forming part of the Hudson Yards Redevelopment. Illuminated by acclaimed London-based lighting practice Speirs Major Light Architecture, the design for the central elevated 2.5-acre plaza supports easy permeable connection with transport hubs, a thriving retail environment, and opportunities for social interaction. The lobbies of buildings One and Two act as an extension of the public realm, with light that cleverly dissolves the glazed external envelopes, while celebrating the sculptural qualities of the architecture. Speirs Major walks us through the scheme.
